FPCCI seeks SC protection against FBR powers - Newspaper

Dawn/File KARACHI: The acting president of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), Nasir Khan, has urged the Supreme Court to protect the business community as the “discretionary” powers of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) have been expanded in the federal budget of the current financial year. Speaking at a press conference at the Federation House on Wednesday along with other businessmen, he said Section 203A (powers to arrest) of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, would only result in increase in corruption and harassment.

July 12, 2021 FAISALABAD: Adviser to Prime Minister on Commerce and Investment Abdul Razak Dawood has said that sustainable growth in exports is the only solution to cope with the economic problems of the country. Addressing the members of Pakistan Textile Exporters Association (PTEA) here on Sunday, Abdul Razak Dawood said that the country’s exports had witnessed the highest ever 18pc surge in FY 2020-21 despite adverse impacts of COVID-19 pandemic. The world’s major economies shrunk mainly due to the deadliest COVID-19 waves, but it was Pakistan that showed tremendous performance in increasing the exports, he added. All credit goes to our valued exporters who performed extremely well even in challenging times of pandemic, he maintained. Service exports brought under final tax regime: FBR

Daily Times Says WHT rates for industrial, commercial consumers revised July 5, 2021 The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has said that export of services has been brought under final tax regime with effect from July 01, 2021. The FBR in an explanation to Finance Act, 2021 stated that in line with the policy of the government to attract legal flow of remittances into the country and to promote export of services in all sectors of economy, a special regime at par with export of goods regime has been introduced through insertion of section 154A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001. The service providers would be subjected to 1 per cent withholding tax under Division IVA of Part III of First Schedule of the Ordinance on their export proceeds remitted in Pakistan through Banks and authorised dealers of foreign exchange. This would be the final tax, said the FBR.
