(WFIE) -Putting forth a strong first half, the University of Evansville fell to No. 7 seed Valparaiso, 65-52, in the opening round of Hoops in the Heartland on Thursday night inside the TaxSlayer Center in Moline, Ill. Leading the way for Evansville was sophomore Abby Feit, who finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Feit scored 16 of her points in the first half, hitting all four of her early three-point attempts. Adding eight points for the Aces were junior A’Niah Griffin and sophomore Jossie Hudson as both also grabbed five rebounds a piece.  Powering Valpo was Carie Weinman with 28 points, leading a trio of double-figure scorers for the brown & gold.

Missouri State’s 10th Jackie Stiles Player of the Year winner and first since Tyonna Snow in 2016, Calip leads the MVC and ranks eighth nationally with a 2.94 assist-to-turnover ratio, on pace for Missouri State’s single-season record. The Sapulpa, Okla., native leads the Lady Bears in scoring (13.4 points/game), assists (4.3) and steals (2.3), ranking second in the MVC in the latter two categories.

Tax Slayer Center welcomes people back for first event

After one year, nearly to the day, the Tax Slayer Center is hosting its first event since the lockdown that first started last March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Missouri Women’s Basketball Tournament is scheduled for the weekend of March 11th through March 14th. Executive Director Scott Mullen says it feels right to start with this event. “It’s appropriate that this is the event we re starting back up with. Everybody is excited to be here.” It was this tournament that was going on when the shut down started. Those players will be a part of history again, back now for this tournament.
