Pueblo City Council might hire lawyer for PUC investigation into energy prices

The City of Pueblo could bring on its own legal representation in the Public Utilities Commission’s ongoing investigation of electric and gas company’s response to February’s cold weather event. The PUC announced an investigation on Feb. 17 to determine whether energy providers purchased natural gas at an above-market rate during that cold snap with the intention to pass the cost on to consumers.  The city could enlist Mark Davidson, an energy lawyer with the Denver-based firm Fairfield and Woods, to represent its interests in that investigation.   “The cost that he could save, not just with Black Hills but also with Xcel, and passing on those costs to the shareholders and not to the rate payers could be worth millions to the city of Pueblo,” city attorney Dan Kogovsek said in his staff report during the April 26 Pueblo City Council meeting.

But these tremors seemed different  they appeared to be getting worse. After a series of tests to measure his balance, movement and cognition, Weierbach’s neurologist delivered some troubling news. “She put me through a whole series of tests and said, ‘I think you have Parkinson’s Disease,’” Weierbach recalled.

Pueblo City Council takes first look at e-scooter ordinance

Puebloans could soon zip around town on an electric scooter, at a safe speed and wearing a helmet, of course. The Pueblo City Council considered a first presentation on an ordinance to approve a license agreement between the city and Bird Rides, the shared electric scooter company that is proposing to bring a fleet of 200 scooters to town.   The ordinance calls for Bird to pay the city an initial annual license fee of $500 and renewal license fees of $200 each year after. Additionally, Bird would pay the city 10 cents per ride completed during the preceding year when they apply for renewal.

News No Comments The University of Arkansas at Little Rock will host a photography exhibit by alumni Dylan Yarbrough that documents the gatherings around a public sauna in Finland. The exhibit, “Sompasauna,” will be on display from Feb. 22 to March 19 in the Focus Gallery at the Windgate Center of Art and Design at UA Little Rock. This ongoing photography project documents the community that gathers around a public sauna in Helsinki, Finland. The communal bathing space, known as Sompasauna, has been nestled between the urban wasteland of a former harbor and the Baltic Sea since 2011.  “Regardless of gender, race, class, nationality, or any other disposition, visitors are expected to coexist in peace,” Yarbrough said. “Unlike commercial saunas, Sompasauna relies on the effort of every visitor to fetch water, chop wood, make repairs, and clean up. The point is to literally bare all, enjoy the Finnish ritual of Löyly, be invigorated by cold water, and share life and ide
