Grant gifted to Denver museums to preserve Black history

Over the past four years, the National Trust has funded 105 historic places connected to Black history and invested more than $7.3 million to help preserve landscapes and buildings imbued with Black life, humanity and cultural heritage. This year’s funds were awarded to key places and organizations that help the Action Fund protect and restore significant historic sites. Historic Larimer County Schoolhouse to be Restored by Public

With the help of community volunteers, members of HistoriCorps, and the Larimer County Department of Natural Resources, a piece of northern Colorado history will be preserved for the public to enjoy for years to come. The groups will be working together to restore a historic schoolhouse that s located in Red Mountain Open Space in Larimer County. Red Mountain Open Space is approximately 25 miles north of Fort Collins, and is also part of the Laramie Foothills Mountains to Plains project that conserves more than 55,000 acres in the area. Get our free mobile app According to HistoriCorps, the schoolhouse has been standing for more than 100 years and is a great representation of Colorado s historical agricultural roots. The old wooden building was constructed by farmers and ranchers that settled in the area between the 1870s and 1920s. Dawn DiPrince named 13th History Colorado executive director

Dawn DiPrince s rise in the history and story-telling of Colorado s past is set to take another leap.  The Board of Directors of History Colorado announced Tuesday that DiPrince will take over as the organization s new executive director. The search for outgoing executive director Steve Turner s replacement after 13 years in the role evaluated over 100 applicants across the nation.  DiPrince will take over the role Sept. 1, 2021. Her selection was a unanimous vote from the board.  I immediately thought about my ancestors and my great grandmother, DiPrince said. She immigrated from Italy in the 19-teens and on her ship s manifest, she put Elm Street, Pueblo, Colorado as her destination.
