The pandemic has caused huge revenue shortfalls in state budgets across the Mountain West and the country, renewing heated debates over taxes. That s true in Wyoming, too, though one tax issue before lawmakers is still something that, you know, gets whispered about.
So says Jen Simon, and she s talking about periods. Simon is with the Wyoming Women s Action Network, and she says cultural stigma prevents important public policy discussions around, for example, the affordability of feminine hygiene products. If you can t actually afford products, you might not go to school on those days, so you might miss out on part of your education, she says. You might not be able to go to work on those days, so you might work to miss out on income. And it s really incredibly problematic.

Collaborative Connections, Inc, was recently awarded a 2021 State Literacy Award from the Library of Congress for their Everyone Has a Story Project. The program enables inmates at Wyoming correctional facilities to select books for their children and to record themselves reading the books, building family connections through the power of stories. The Everyone Has a Story Project was nominated for the award by the Wyoming State Library through its Wyoming Center for the Book program.
The Library of Congress State Literacy Awards Program, made possible through the generous support of David M. Rubenstein, recognizes organizations or programs that have made outstanding contributions to promoting literacy and/or reading in a state or local community. Collaborative Connections was one of only seven organizations selected nationally.
A Sundance woman will have another day in court after successfully winning her appeal to the Wyoming Supreme Court Friday.
Marty Smith was charged and convicted as an accessory in the death of Doug Haar in the summer of 2018. The incident stemmed from a fight between Haar, Smith, and Jessie Johnson that occurred at a convenience in Sundance following a night of heavy drinking.
Smith, who had dated Haar in the past and had just started dating Johnson, got into the middle of the scuffle, which video surveillance shows Haar to have started. Johnson intervened after Haar pushed Smith down several times and chest bumped him.
