Wrestling notebook: Alternative tournament announced after cancellations | Trib HSSN

Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling recently announced the 2021 junior high and elementary state tournaments, along with Area tournaments, have been canceled because of the ongoing pandemic. The junior high tournament was scheduled for March 6-7 at Cambria County War Memorial Arena in Johnstown. The elementary tournament was scheduled March 27-28 at Pitt’s Petersen Events Center. After those tournaments were canceled, an alternative tournament was announced. It will be April 2-3 at Monroeville Convention Center.

Louis J Pagnotti Jr

Louis J. Pagnotti Jr., 94, of Old Forge, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, surrounded by his family. He was married to the late Josephine Domiano Pagnotti, who preceded him in death in 2003. Born in Old Forge, he was the son of the late Louis Sr. and Mary Tedesco Pagnotti. Louis grew up in Old Forge, attending Old Forge schools through 10th grade. In 1942, he graduated from the Staunton Military Academy in Staunton, Virginia, at 15 years old. In 1943, he graduated from Wyoming Seminary and enrolled at Penn State University. While a college student, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in the infantry, receiving a World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal and the American Campaign Medal for his distinguished military service. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he completed his college education earning a degree in commerce and business.

Hempfield was entered in the Powerade tournament before it was rescheduled. The Powerade Holiday Tournament has a new date. Tournament director Frank Vulcano said the event will take place Jan. 29-30 at Monroeville Convention Center. Powerade originally was scheduled for Dec. 28- 29, but Gov. Tom Wolf’s order to halt high school athletic until Jan. 4 in hopes of helping slow the spread of covid-19 transmission forced Vulcano to postpone the wrestling tournament until the last weekend of January.
