Barbados’ deaths related to the COVID-19 virus have now skyrocketed to 18, after two more elderly citizens passed away in the space of the last 48 hours.
The country had entered 2021 with just seven cases, but the latest two make it 11 in less than a month.
And Minister of Health Jeffrey Bostic, is quite concerned about the upsurge that is affecting the country as part of a second spike of the virus.
In a statement released by Government’s Covid Communications Unit moments ago, it was confirmed that a third and fourth Barbadian have died between yesterday and this morning, bringing the death toll from the virus to 18.

In spite of all efforts to protect the elderly in Government care from the COVID-19 virus, a patient in the Geriatric Hospital tested positive on Thursday morning.
And the chief medical officer and two senior medical officers of health were immediately dispatched to the Jemmotts Road, St Michael facility to meet with the director, gerontologist and staff.
“I will tell you that this particular case had to be a situation where the virus came into the hospital and that is being investigated,” Minister of Health Jeffrey Bostic said during Thursday’s televised COVID-19 management update. “Obviously, if a patient is in the hospital for several years or months, then they would not have had the opportunity to go outside.
