Police arrest 21-year-old man accused in Worcester double shooting

A 21-year-old man accused in a double shooting in Worcester last month was apprehended by law enforcement earlier this week, according to Massachusetts State Police.
State troopers assigned to the Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section and Worcester police located and arrested 21-year-old Angel Garrastegui on Monday in connection with the shooting of two men in the city last month, authorities said.
Law enforcement recently developed information that Garrastegui, a Worcester resident, may be in the area of Stafford Street. Troopers and officers set up surveillance around the area and saw a man matching his description walk to a nearby store. As he exited the store, authorities confirmed he was the suspect and converged on him, according to a statement from state police.
FRAMINGHAM A Roslindale man wanted by police in connection with a December shooting is in custody after authorities arrested him Friday.
Police arrested Axel Mercado, 40, in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, early Friday morning, Framingham police said in a release.
“We want to thank our partners, Massachusetts State Police VFAS (Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section) and the U.S. Marshals who worked tirelessly to capture Axel,” police said in the release.
Mercado was wanted in a Dec. 29 shooting at 2C Brackett Road.
Police went to the apartment and found a man lying in a pool of his own blood in the kitchen, suffering from a gunshot wound in this back. Police, at the time, said the shooting was not random.

SALEM, MA Nearly 450 grams of cocaine and more than $50,000 in cash were seized while police attempted to take a Palmer Street man into custody on a home invasion warrant Wednesday night, State Police said.
Police said the Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section and Salem police officers encountered an angry mob of bystanders as they attempted to take Kenneth Gonzalez, 48, into custody, and that he tried to flee carrying a knife and a large amount of cocaine.
