Yinka Shonibare To Coordinate 253rd RA Summer Exhibition – National Gallery  The Summer Exhibition Committee members are Royal Academicians Tony Bevan, Vanessa Jackson, Mali Morris, Humphrey Ocean, Eva Rothschild, Bob and Roberta Smith and Emma Stibbon. David Adjaye will curate the Architecture Gallery. The committee will be chaired by the President of the Royal Academy, Rebecca Salter. For this year’s exhibition, Shonibare will explore the theme of ‘Reclaiming Magic’ and celebrate the joy of creating art. He also plans to include some work that has not been made in a ‘Western tradition’. Shonibare said: “Reclaiming Magic’ is an exhibition that seeks a return to the visceral aspects of art-making. National Coalition Of 100 Black Women Hosts Mental Health Panel Discussion Friday, March 12, 2021 The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Chattanooga Chapter, Inc. will present a panel discussion on Mental Health: Pandemic Proofing Your Child, live on its Facebook page on Saturday from 1-2 p.m.  “The COVID-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc on our mental health, especially those who are most vulnerable, our children, said Vanessa Jackson, NCBW s Community Involvement Committee chair. Loss of income, social distancing, disruptions of our daily life, isolation, sickness, and death have brought on feelings of overwhelming grief and devastation for all of us, and these feelings are even more difficult and incomprehensible for children to process. The Community Involvement Committee of the NCBW, Chattanooga Chapter is hosting this webinar to address the fears and instabilities experienced by our children as a result of this health crisis.”

of LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 29, 2021)   Around the globe, fashion brands are known to quickly create inexpensive garments to meet ever-changing trends. This practice known as “fast fashion” has been largely welcomed by budget-conscious consumers. However, as sustainability and social justice become emerging mainstream values, buying patterns are beginning to shift. Now, some consumers question how textile industries impact developing nations  where nearly 90% of the world’s clothes are produced.  At 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, the University of Kentucky Gaines Center for the Humanities and College of Agriculture, Food and Environment’s Merchandising, Apparel and Textiles program are hosting local fashion designer and activist Soreyda Benedit-Begley for a virtual discussion on “The Human Costs of Fast Fashion.”
