In Rome, time is measured in centuries, not sound bites.
Nestled in a valley between the Palatine and Capitoline hills is the Forum, where Julius Caesar was cremated. To the east of the Forum is the Colosseum, where gladiators battled before 60,000 spectators. Hadrian’s Pantheon, the temple of all the gods, is so striking that Michelangelo said it looked like the work of angels, not people.
But, in my opinion, the crown jewel of The Eternal City is St. Peter’s Basilica. Constructed with elements of both Renaissance and Baroque style, its architects were legendary: Bernini, Raphael, Bramante and Michelangelo, to name a few.
