Renewal of the Santa Ynez Valley’s tool to attract tourists received support from the Solvang City Council on Tuesday night.
Council members voted unanimously to support extending for six years the Santa Ynez Valley Tourism Improvement District.
The organization markets the valley’s six diverse communities Solvang, Buellton, Santa Ynez, Los Olivos, Ballard and Los Alamos plus holds educational classes on tourism and customer service for local industry workers.
About 93% of hoteliers supported extending the tourism improvement district. To be approved, the district needs more than 50% support from hoteliers.

Program on 1850 Ohio Women’s Convention
SALEM The Salem Historical Society will host its third online program today, featuring the 1850 Ohio Women’s Convention. The program is available on the historical society’s group Facebook page at 7 p.m.
Presented by Virginia Maria Grilli, the program will offer an insight into the setting and conditions that fueled the early drive for women’s suffrage, perspective of Quaker women and those who shared their views and an overview of resolutions that were developed, adopted and put forth to change the Ohio Constitution in 1850.

Garbage regulations will be discussed when city council’s Rules and Ordinances Committee meets at 6 p.m. Jan. 12.
“Everybody’s complaining about the trash not being picked up on time,” Councilwoman Cyndi Baronzzi Dickey said Tuesday night when contacted by phone.
During the day, it was hard not to notice the overflowing trash containers with more bags and boxes piled on top and to the side sitting by curbs throughout the city. She said there have been complaints about noise, too, and some trucks are leaking on city streets.
Dickey chairs the Rules & Ordinances Committee and announced the meeting during Tuesday’s city council session. She said Councilman Sal Salvino approached her about discussing the garbage rules. She explained the discussion will include regulations for trash haulers and restrictions related to hours for pickup or possibly requiring truck inspections for registration.
FirstPark in Oakland pays off bond debt, looks to future
The 285-acre commerce and technology center s 24 member communities are looking to boost tax revenues and sell more lots.

OAKLAND FirstPark has paid off its bond debt. Now, the commerce and technology center off Kennedy Memorial Drive in Oakland is working to deliver greater return on its member communities’ investments in the park by boosting tax revenues and selling more lots at the 285-acre campus.
Last week, the business park made its final bond payment to the Maine Municipal Bond Bank, wrapping up the 20-year loan the park and its 24 municipal members signed with the intention of gaining a source of tax revenue.
