Harbor of Hope s rigid tents pop up in Portland camps April 30 2021
Stabler, warmer tents designed for Harbor of Hope are being road tested now before being mass produced for future Portland homeless camps.
Homer Williams nonprofit Harbor of Hope distributed one to two thousand tents last year, the former developer told the Portland Tribune on Wednesday. They don t work, Williams declared. They leak, the fabric is no protection against being hit from outside, they blow over and they can t be locked.
So, he commissioned LIT Workshop in Northwest Portland to design and fabricate rigid tents. These are 70 pound structures with insulated floors, solar panels, and a lockable door. They are the size of a two-person tent and have a translucent end section for privacy and allowing in light.
Three smashed windows spur riot declaration in Portland April 24 2021
The Police Bureau, controlled by Mayor Ted Wheeler, clamped down on a march along Northwest 23rd Avenue after property was destroyed.
Three broken windows was all it took for Portland Police Bureau commanders to declare a riot hours after Mayor Ted Wheeler vowed once again to crack down on a black-clad movement known as antifa.
The protest group gathered on Friday evening, April 23, at Couch Park in the city s Northwest District, where one person dressed as darkly as midnight instructed those circled around to disperse as soon as an unlawful assembly occurred.

I knew Vera initially as the lady who would tell us to keep it down, says Wheeler, who went on to earn Katzâs endorsement in his 2016 mayoral bid. In January, Wheeler hired former Mayor Sam Adams, Katz s chief of staff.Â

Lovell addressed the increases in both gun violence and traffic fatalities in the greater Portland region.
Following a week-long protest-related emergency declaration and more civil unrest, Portland Police Chief Chuck Lovell held a press conference Tuesday afternoon, where he addressed the increases in both gun violence and traffic fatalities in the greater Portland region, as well as the ongoing rioting.
Lovell was first asked about the creation of an upcoming focus-intervention team the bureau plans to roll in response to increased gun violence. We re in the process of figuring out where we re going to get the resources for that team, Lovell said. As you know, our request for funding for that team did not go through. …We want to be mindful of how we build that team, though. We want there to be an appropriate amount of community input and things of that nature.
