Responding officers found an adult male and a juvenile male suffering from gunshot wounds. They were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police say two additional adult male victims left the scene in an attempt to get to a local hospital. One of the adult males had non-life-threatening injuries, while the other, identified as Dawkins, succumbed to his injuries, according to an MCPD press release.
A police investigation determined that the four victims were standing in the parking lot of the 18700 block of Curry Powder Lane when an unknown suspect or suspects began shooting at the group before fleeing the scene. At this time, police do not believe this incident is a random event.

Age 79, Billie died July 26, 2021, surrounded by her family. She was raised in Brule, WI, a community dear to her heart and graduated from Northwestern High School in 1960. She was a long-time resident of Apple Valley, enjoyed working in the schools, being involved in the community, creating gifts, supporting the Minnesota Twins and more. Her joy was enjoying time with family and friends. Billie loved listening to Elvis on road trips with husband, Lloyd. She participated in many community organizations. She believed in choosing kindness and patience, a lesson that she instilled in her children. She will be remembered by her loving husband, Lloyd, and their children: Juanita (Mike) Drabek, Lloyd, Tom, Patricia, and John (Andrea) along with wonderful grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A former employee of the Wichita Public Schools has been charged with two counts of sexual exploitation of a child.
A first court appearance was held Monday for 48-year-old Shawn Wingfield. He had worked at Northwest High School since 1997, but resigned last week citing his personal health and well being. He was arrested by Wichita police on Saturday.
Bond was set at $50,000 and the next court appearance was scheduled for August 12th.
