In North Herts candidates are vying for the nine county council seats across the district

More than 300 political hopefuls across Herts are battling it out for a place on the county council, as the countdown to polling day continues.
In North Herts, Conservative, Green, Labour and Liberal Democrat party candidates are standing for election in all nine of the county council seats within the district.
Candidates from Christian Peoples Alliance are standing in three of the divisions - with Trade Unionists and Socialists Against Cuts and Reform fielding candidates too.
In Stevenage, counting of ballots for both district and county council votes will begin on Saturday.
For North Herts, county council ballots will be counted on Saturday and for district on Sunday. Measures planned to ensure safety including the wearing of face masks, as well as the use of hand sanitiser, screens and dividers between counters.

Those allowed to attend the North Herts counts will be lower than in previous years, in order to maintain social distancing.
In St Albans, votes for the 10 county council seats will be counted on Saturday, and for district council on Sunday.

COVID-19 cases are continuing to fall in both Stevenage and North Herts

Coronavirus cases in Stevenage and North Hertfordshire have continued to fall, as shops, barbers, pubs and more reopened on Monday, April 12.
In Stevenage, there have been 21 confirmed cases of COVID-19 between April 7 to April 14, with seven fewer cases compared to the prior week.
The rate per 100,000 in Stevenage is 50.3, higher than the national average of 28.6. There have been almost 6,000 positive COVID-19 cases in Stevenage (5,989) since records began.
Sadly, two people have died with COVID-19 on their death certificate in Stevenage in the last 28 days, taking the town s total to 166.

In the last week, as pub gardens, salons and other non-essential retailers have opened their doors, how have the district s coronavirus cases fared?
At the time of publishing, St Albans had 25 confirmed coronavirus cases between April 3 and April 9, up by just three cases compared to the previous week.
Per 100,000 people, there are 17 cases of coronavirus across St Albans, which is slightly up from last week, where 15 cases per 100,000 were recorded.
St Albans case rate sits in line with England s average area, where 18 cases per 100,000 were recorded. Last week, England s average was 28 per 100,000.
