Renewed Clashes Displace Thousands In Myanmar, UN Reports

Friday, 30 April 2021, 6:28 pm Fresh clashes between Myanmar security forces and regional armed groups have displaced thousands across the country, the UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said on Tuesday. According to the Office, almost 50 clashes between the military and the Kachin Independence Army were reported in several places in Kachin state, including use of airstrikes by security forces as well as mortar shelling by both sides, displacing nearly 5,000 people and damaging several homes. “Around 800 people returned to their villages of origin within a few days and an estimated 4,000 people remain displaced in various sites, including in churches and monasteries”, OCHA said in a humanitarian

UNICEF East Asia and Pacific Region Humanitarian Situation Report No. 1, 1 Jan – 31 March 2021 Format Highlights The number of confirmed cases and deaths from COVID-19 in the region have more than doubled since the beginning of 2021. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 3,523,121 positive COVID-19 cases and 75,021 deaths have been confirmed in the region, with Indonesia (1,492,002 cases) and the Philippines (712,417 cases) being the most affected. Countries across the region are now racing to vaccinate their populations against COVID-19, resulting in the largest vaccine procurement and supply operation in history. At the same time governments remain focused on containing the spread of the virus and responding to the social-economic impacts of the pandemic, which are exacerbating the vulnerability of families to natural hazards and protracted humanitarian situations.

Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Facilitator

23 Apr 2021 The National MHPSS Facilitator will closely work with International MHPSS Technical Officer to mobilise communities to understand and respond to the needs of MHPSS. The Volunteer will undertake intensive training on MHPSS so that they are provided with the tools and skills to support partners and vulnerable population groups in addressing MHPSS needs. The National MHPSS Facilitator will work under the direct supervision of the VSO Social Cohesion Technical Advisor with additional technical support from International MHPSS Technical Officer. The volunteer will be based in Northern Shan, Myanmar. Skills and experiences require: Bachelor’s degree in development studies, gender and development, public health, social work, psychology or other related fields.
