The 108 Mile Heritage site has been approved for a big boost in funding from Northern Development.
The Heritage Site was approved for $300,000 through the Cultural Infrastructure for the Northern Secwepemc Cultural Society (NSCS) for the construction of the Northern Secwepemc Cultural Centre.
The NSCSC is comprised of five member bands, Canim Lake, Canoe Creek, Soda Creek, Williams Lake, and Esk’etemc, and will construct a new cultural centre and museum at 108 Mile Lake.
“Starting with a dream in 2004 and an early grant from Northern Development Initiative Trust [NDIT], the NSCS last year reached a position where all was in place to build and operate a small cultural centre and museum, except for construction financing”, NSCS Vice President Irene Gilbert says, “With a new NDIT grant for which we are extremely grateful, we hope to leverage the balance from other sources during the next few months.”

The Northern Development Initiative Trust has approved 300 thousand dollars for the city’s proposed RV park and campground construction on the old public works site in the Johnston Bridge Loop.
This money is on top of the almost 515 thousand dollars that the City has already received from the province, and will allow for better service sites and better washroom facilities.
It also means that the project will be 100 percent funded.
The plan is to build 13 RV Park/campsites, provide water and electrical services, pave the entrance to reduce dust and gravel, and to construct two washrooms.
Chad Staley Memorial Arena and the Prince George Golf and Curling Club which houses it will be receiving infrastructure upgrades which will make both arenas safer and more energy efficient. A . . .
The Prince George Airport is garnering international attention from North American cargo carriers, according to general manager Stieg Hoeg.
Hoeg spoke about the runway expansion underway in Prince George at the Airports Council International Air Cargo Conference in Los Angeles, March 26-27.
“We had four third-party developers who are interested in the whole opportunity,” he said.
The airport authority is seeking $20,000 from the Northern Development Initiative Trust and $20,000 from Western Economic Diversification to develop a multi-media presentation promoting economic opportunities in addition to air cargo.
The kit is the first phase of a three-year plan to market the airport and surrounding opportunities ?including the development of a light industrial and logistics part adjecent to the airport.
