Marvin Coleman’s story, like the story of the Hyde Park community in North Memphis where he was raised, is one of trauma and triumph.
In 1983, Coleman, who owns Chelsea Automart Inc., a used car business there, saw a Memphis police SWAT team raid a house in what would be known as the Shannon Street Massacre.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Community members say enough is enough when it comes to violent crime in Memphis.
They’re joining forces to launch a new initiative focused on reducing crime by starting in their neighborhood.
This new initiative comes amid a surge of violent crimes in which children are the victims, including a 10-year-old girl who police say was shot inside a Raleigh apartment complex Monday night while riding in her mother’s car.
The 34-year-old from South Africa s KwaZulu-Natal province was arrested in December 2019, and made several court appearances before he pleaded guilty on Monday.
