Main Gallery: In “One Thing and Then Another” the Firehouse presents four painters addressing the gray spaces between ideas and reality. While looking at the world around us, we see one thing, and then another.
Featuring work by Joseph Cavalieri, Samantha Fisher, Mark Farrell and Sierra Montoya Barela. All four artists draw from childhood and memory, combining the real and the absurd – achieving through painting a cumulative expression of what it’s like to love the world as a child and then reflect as an adult, blending a mature perspective with the cultural aesthetics and naive playfulness of youth.
A few weeks ago, my husband, Stephen, and I took our kids (Laura, 19; her boyfriend Sam, 19; Connor, 17; and Caroline, 13) to the Grand Canyon. We were backpacking there as a family for the ninth time, spending five nights below the rim, off the grid, in the wilderness. Typically, after each of these trips, I relish sitting down at my computer for a few solid days. I don’t bother changing out of my PJs, and I let dishes and laundry pile up. I wade through photos, selecting my favorite hundred or so from the thousands we’ve taken. I weave our pictures into my writing about every day of our trip, working hard to capture meaningful moments, challenges and trials, and funny stories. I do this to share the tales of our adventures, and I do this so we won’t forget the details.
BOULDER, Co. Denver-based Tigray Action Network Colorado will march in Boulder on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at 11:30 to Representative Joe Neguse’s Walnut St. office to raise awareness about the ongoing conflict and genocide in the Tigray region of Ethiopia.
According to the New York Times, “fighting has ravaged northern Ethiopia since early November when the government opened a military offensive against the ruling faction in the region of Tigray, starting a conflict that has caused thousands of deaths and widespread destruction, displaced over 2 million people, and sent tens of thousands of refugees into neighboring Sudan.”
While disputed by the governments involved, Eritrean involvement in the conflict has been confirmed by international groups such as Amnesty International. The brutality in this region, committed by both Ethiopian and Eritrean soldiers, is significant, including raping infants and elderly women.
