Some Springfield aldermen are still determined to hold Mayor Jim Langfelder financially accountable and intend to bring back an ordinance next Tuesday that would lower the office of the mayor s spending power.
Although it was not addressed at Tuesday s Committee of the Whole, the full city council is set to address the ordinance, which would reduce what the mayor could authorize spending-wise without council approval from $50,000 to $10,000, at next week s full council meeting.
There is also consternation over Langfelder s approval of a $47,000 expense for a building used for the Springfield NAACP s Back to School/Stay in School program. Council members thwarted an ordinance for a higher amount even though the city s Economic & Community Development Commission approved the entire expenditure for improvements.

On the evening of April 6th, Officers responded to the 1000 block of East 16th Street in reference to a disturbance. During the investigation, Officers located marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Maylyn D. Pozenel, 43, of Sedalia, was arrested for Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Early Saturday morning, Officers responded to the Wendy s restaurant, 1301 South Limit, for a report of leaving the scene of an accident. The suspect tried to drive a UHaul truck through the drive thru and collided with the overhead awning before leaving the scene.
Some significant traffic disruptions are coming for Springfield motorists, including the 14-month closures of both Madison and Jefferson streets at the same time as part of the Springfield Rail Improvements Project.
Springfield council members were updated on the $356 million project during last week s committee of the whole meeting by James Moll, a vice president and project manager from Hanson Engineers. Moll contended that the team has seen no evidence that construction equipment has caused structural damage to homes in the area over the contention of Ward 6 Ald. Kristin DiCenso.
The rail improvements project aims to alleviate rail congestion in downtown Springfield by consolidating train traffic from Third Street to 10th Street and through building a series of overpasses and underpasses along the corridor.
