Southern Governors’ Forum: A welcome development

The news came so subtly and quite unusual with stories associated with such giant newsmakers: that Governors of Southern Nigeria met on May 4 on the State of the Nation. Fifteen of the 17 Governors were said to have attended, while two were represented by their deputies, with the promise of a follow-up meeting this week. Notwithstanding that it was a virtual meeting, which starved it of the usual fanfare, its proponents deserve commendation by all lovers of peace in the continued threatened corporate existence of this nebulous federation.

FOR SALE: Gigg Lane ADMINISTRATORS have placed Gigg Lane up for sale, it has been announced. Agents have been appointed to sell the former Bury FC home as part of the ongoing administration process. Administrator Steven Wiseglass says he has been in discussions with Capital Bridging Solutions, which is itself in administration, over the £2.91m charge it holds over the 12,000 capacity ground. And a bid by a community consortium, using existing legislation on assets of community interest, has not been ruled out. Mr Wiseglass says the stadium is freehold and unconditional offers are being sought for the ground, including the ticket office and club shop.
