DCMS approve return of fans at Tier 3 non-league clubs

THE path is seemingly clear for the Northern Premier League and the North West Counties League to return to action – potentially before the new year. In a statement released the afternoon, the FA have confirmed one of the major sticking points that has prevented non-elite football at Steps Three to Six of the National League System from restarting after last month s lockdown has been cleared. Approval has been received from the Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) for clubs in Tier 3 areas to welcome home supporters to matches – something that had previously been banned under the toughened tier restrictions brought in last week.

West Ham United v Crystal Palace - All you need to know

Team news West Ham United will hope to welcome back Ukrainian forward Andriy Yarmolenko, who tested positive for COVID-19 while on international duty with Ukraine in November. Michail Antonio is likely to miss a third match with a hamstring injury picked up in the home win over Aston Villa on 30 November, however, while manager David Moyes is monitoring a couple of knocks in his squad. Arthur Masuaku is definitely unavailable after undergoing surgery to mend a long-standing knee problem. Crystal Palace will be without goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey (knee) and defenders Nathan Ferguson (thigh) and Martin Kelly (calf), but full-back Tyrick Mitchell will hope to have recovered from a cold in time to feature.

Lasses draw Sheffield in FA Cup

Sunderland AFC Ladies will match up with fellow FAWNL Northern Premier League side Sheffield Women in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup in January, after the two names were drawn simultaneously today. Round Two of the Cup will be played on the turn of the year, with matches scheduled for Sunday 3 January, and the Lasses will play host to a Sheffield side who currently sit at 11 th place in the same league. A total of 32 teams will compete on the day across the country, with local rivals Newcastle United travelling to Brighouse Town and Middlesbrough Women hosting Hull City. Sunderland enter the cup in Round Two, as the first round is left to lower league teams to compete before introducing higher competition.
