Storm surge in Sarasota was expected to be 3 to 5 feet.
A couple of Fort Myers Beach residents, Mary Shields and Dan Blanchet, were sitting at the end of Strandview Avenue just watching the clouds and waves go by at mid-day Tuesday.
“So far it hasn’t shown much, but it still has a way to go until the center gets up here,” Blanchet said around noon, guessing that the worst part would come around dinner. “It’s not as bad as Eta (in November 2020), but it was a hurricane.”
“We just hope we don’t get a lot of soil erosion from the waves crashing in,” Shields said, pointing to the sand along a section of Fort Myers Beach.
