The masterminds behind the famous Honeycrisp and other apples at the University of Minnesota are at it again, introducing a new variety of apple called Triumph.
I have to admit, before I moved to Minnesota nearly a decade ago, I had no idea how many of the different varieties of apples we take for granted in the produce section of grocery stores or at farmer s markets were invented right here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes.
Would you believe 27 different apple varieties have been pioneered here in the North Star State, all thanks to the University of Minnesota?!? And, it s not just apples they ve invented, the Minnesota Hardy program has also been breeding berries, grapes, ornamental trees and shrubs, flowers, and grasses for over 150 years. And, they ve come up with over 400 different varieties since then!
Education Minnesota suggests reforms to child care and early education
For 18 months, Education Minnesota and Kids Count On Us had researched the state of child care and early education in the state. On Tuesday, they released their suggestions for making the system better.
