Proposal by Penang and Kedah for federal aid may set precedent for similar demands from other states: Experts

PETALING JAYA : A proposal to have the federal government underwrite the cost to upkeep and protect water catchment areas has been dismissed as unsustainable. Instead, states should work together to find a win-win solution, according to an expert on water issues, and an economist. Association of Water and Energy Research Malaysia president S. Piarapakaran said any move by the federal government to provide financial support to a state to protect water catchment areas will prompt other states to make similar demands. “In the end, what is going to happen to taxpayers’ money? Will it be used to pay for protecting such areas or for infrastructure development?”

Commonwealth Youth City project in Tanjung Malim to be revived

11 Apr 2021 / 18:10 H. Pix for illustration purposes. IPOH: The Perak government will revive the Commonwealth Youth City project in Tanjung Malim that was shelved during Pakatan Harapan’s rule. Menteri Besar Datuk Saarani Mohamad said the project that was implemented under former Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir’s administration, was part of plans for the Southern Perak Development Corridor. “That plan was suspended after the new state government took over in 2018 and with its own policies introduced at that time, the project was shelved. “Coincidently, when I was appointed Menteri Besar, the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) and the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER), which before this only focused on development in North Perak, agreed to expand its plans to the south as well.
