Squantum school in Quincy to get renovation, rebuild

QUINCY  The Squatum Elementary School is set to be rebuilt or undergo major renovations nearly 102 years after it first opened to the city s children. The Massachusetts School Building Authority voted Wednesday to accept the school into its building program after rejecting it twice before. The program provides millions of dollars to communities with schools in major need of repair and in recent years has helped rebuild Quincy s South-West Middle School, Weymouth s Chapman school and Scituate s Gates Middle School. “This project is vital to the future of Squantum and our city. We have an incredibly well-proven track record in delivering transformational school projects together with the MSBA, and I think that gives the board of directors a good deal of confidence in welcoming us once again into the program,” Mayor Thomas Koch, who is also chairman of the school committee, said in a statement. “We have plenty of work ahead, and I’m looking forward to it.”
