Bail application of mother of two accused of killing hotel owner husband delayed

The bail application of 30-year-old Suretha Brits, who is accused of being the mastermind in the murder of her husband, the owner of the Pofadder Hotel, was postponed to May 17.
Brits appeared in the Pofadder Magistrate’s Court on April 29, 2021.
Provincial National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson, Mojalefa Senokoane said Brits, who is the mother of three children, is facing murder charges following the death of her husband, Leon Brits.
“On October 7, 2020, the victim was brutally killed and his body thrown into the swimming pool on one of his properties, where it was later found. Some items of value, which included diamonds and money was also stolen.
During Friday s interviews,
Judge Mmathebe Violet Phatshoane, the only candidate, was recommended for the position of Deputy Judge President in the Northern Cape.
Advocates
Lawrence Lever and Albert Nxumalo were recommended, out of three candidates, to fill two vacant judges posts.
The interviews will continue on Monday.
The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has recommended Judge Mmathebe Violet Phatshoane for the Deputy Judge President of the Northern Cape Division of the High Court.
Phatshoane was the only person to be interviewed for the position on Friday. According to Judges Matter, Phatshoane was interviewed twice unsuccessfully in 2017 to be the deputy head of the Northern Cape High Court division.
Pofadder hotelier Leon Brits was killed on 7 October 2020.
His wife, Suretha, was arrested in connection with his murder this week and appeared briefly in court.
Her co-accused, who was sentenced to 20 years in jail, alleged in his plea agreement that Suretha was the mastermind.

The wife of the late owner of the Pofadder Hotel, who was found murdered in his swimming pool in October last year, will make a formal bail application in the Pofadder Magistrate’s Court on April 7.
The deceased, Leon Brits, 41, sustained several stab wounds, while valuables including firearms, a cellphone, Krugerrand coins, polished diamonds and cash were taken from the premises at the time of the incident.
Police spokesperson Captain Sergio Kock said that the accused, Suretha Brits, 30, appeared briefly in the Pofadder Magistrate’s Court yesterday on charges of murder, aggravated robbery and perjury.
Northern Cape man gets 15 years for ârevenge murderâ

Kimberley - The Northern Cape High Court has sentenced Michael Monnapule Marema to 15 years imprisonment for the murder of George Monnapule Motheo. The murder was a revenge attack after Motheo killed Maremaâs girlfriend in a car accident in 2016.
Five years of the 15-year sentence was suspended by Acting Judge Amanda Venter.
On the night of July 27, 2016, Motheo accidentally knocked down Puleng Vinolia Mbuku with his vehicle in Nobengula Street, Galeshewe.
Marema later assaulted Motheo, who was rushed to the Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe Hospital where he died the next day as a result of injuries sustained during the attack.
