Covington and the surrounding region have been engaged in an especially desperate struggle with the virus since the latter half of 2020; the Northern Kentucky Health Department reports hundreds of new cases every day.

The total death count remains at 165, according to the Northern Kentucky Health Department.  The total number of COVID-19 cases in Boone, Campbell, Grant and Kenton counties is now 22,736, according to the health department.  The active cases break down this way by county: Boone: 823. Boone: 43. Kenton: 79.  Tuesday, Dec. 29, update: A total 251 new cases of COVID-19 and one new death were reported in Northern Kentucky on Tuesday.
