Townsend today signed with the third NRL club of his career, penning a deal worth $2.4 million over three years according to Nine rugby league reporter Danny Weidler.
Thaiday said Townsend s ability as a game-managing halfback was set to add brilliant value to the Cowboys. I think he brings a level of control, Thaiday said on this week s edition of Wide World of Sports
QLDER. He s played some big-game footy and change is always good as well. It ll be a great change for Chad Townsend but also a great change for the Cowboys. Having him controlling everything and Drinkwater having reign would help him out.

Nine News Danny Weidler reports Townsend s new contract sits closer to the $2.4 million mark over the same time frame, raking Townsend in around $800,000-a-season.
That s a considerable $133,000 upgrade on the initial $660,000-a-season first reported, and $200,000 more than his $600,000-a-season deal at Cronulla.

In doing so, Townsend officially declined a player option for 2022 to leave the Sharks at the end of the season to relocate north.
While the news was all but confirmed late last night, Townsend wanted to address his teammates personally at training before officially confirming the move.
The Cowboys were looking for a long-term answer for their halves problem, particularly with the impending departure of Jake Clifford and the medical retirement of Michael Morgan.
The veteran halfback is set to earn $2 million over three years, according to
The Daily Telegraph.
Townsend had until Round 13 to activate an option in his favour for 2022, while the Sharks had an option in their favour for 2023.
The acquisition of Townsend will all but end the Cowboys hunt for Souths halfback Adam Reynolds, who is believed to be eager to remain in Sydney should he walk from the Bunnies.
North Queensland reportedly used the money saved through the medical retirement of Michael Morgan to bag Townsend.

NRL star Ian Roberts has opened up about the horrific abuse and homophobia he dealt with after becoming the first rugby league player in the world to come out as gay.
The former South Sydney and Manly front rower told the world he was gay in 1995 in a landmark announcement that shocked Australia.
Shortly afterwards he was gazing at the Sydney Harbour Bridge from between the wharves at Circular Quay when he was knocked out by two thugs.
His limp 6 5 body fell to the ground and, according to an elderly woman who tried to help, he was dragged, kicked and abused while unconscious on the concrete.
