Cowdenbeath: Alex Salmond s Alba Party brings unexpected twist to SNP/Labour fight

WHAT looked like being a traditional head-to-head between SNP and Labour has had an unexpected twist with the arrival of Alex Salmond’s Alba Party in Cowdenbeath. Until a few weeks ago, both the Holyrood seat and its Westminster equivalent were held by the unified SNP double act of MSP Annabelle Ewing and MP Neale Hanvey. But then Mr Hanvey, who is well known to local SNP activists, having previously been a prominent councillor, defected to Alba and is now standing on the regional list. It leaves Ms Ewing facing questions about splits as she tries to defend a majority of just over 3,000.

North Queensferry community to help form action plan

VILLAGERS in North Queensferry are to be have their say in the development and delivery of future initiatives in the village. A charrette to develop an action plan is being formed and will include consultation with local residents, community groups and schools. A report examined by Fife Council s South and West Fife area committee last week said the initiative would lay out a shared vision and a deliverable land-use strategy to shape community decision-making and investment. The overarching Local Action Plan will also ensure a coherent approach is taken to the inter-relationship between key sites to better support the social, economic, and physical regeneration needs of the village and its residents, it stated.

North Queensferry visitors will soon be able to spend a penny after funding approved for new public toilets

Budget cuts saw the only public loos in the village removed three years ago by Fife Council. But this move proved far from convenient and new facilities are set to be created at the car park on Battery Road. A report to members of Fife Council s South and West Fife area committee from South and West Fife community manager Alastair Mutch said the old toilets were removed because of under-use and increasing costs. Speaking at their meeting yesterday (Wednesday), Mr Mutch admitted that the decision to take away the toilets had been a point of controversy and revealed that they were also now examining the possibility of a changing places facility.
