Speak kindly to people you encounter : Tahoe wants visitors to take a pledge to behave FacebookTwitterEmail Lake Tahoe has proven to be a major destination for COVID-19 weary tourists hoping to trade the pandemic for the clean air, camping, and water sports found in the region.George Rose/Getty Images Tahoe’s latest solution to its massive litter and pollution issues, its notorious traffic, its perpetual conflict between locals and tourists, its skyrocketing cost of living and dismal local wages is a simple request asking tourists to behave themselves.  Three of Tahoe’s tourism bureaus are asking visitors to take a pledge that outlines how people should conduct themselves while visiting Lake Tahoe. 

Rideshare service gets pilot run

  This summer, North Lake Tahoe residents and visitors will have a new microtransit rideshare service available through Tahoe Truckee Area Regional Transit. The Placer County Board of Supervisors has authorized spending $465,000 to implement this new service as a pilot program this summer. Jaime Wright, Placer County’s Transit Services Public Works manager, said the program is piggybacking off the free Tahoe Truckee Area Regional Transit system in order to continue the public effort to reduce seasonal traffic. “We need to continue to enhance public service,” Wright said. “Whether it’s the summer or the winter, we’re challenged by a good amount of congestion. We need to reduce the vehicle miles traveled and the vehicles on the road.”

After closing for months because of the pandemic, the restaurant had recently reopened with only 13 tables, far fewer than normal. But in the middle of winter in Tahoe, fewer tables doesn’t mean fewer people. The demand for those tables was high. Adams’ wait list grew and grew. “At one point, I sat at the podium for a solid half hour or 45 minutes just writing down people’s names for tables that I didn’t have for them,” Adams said.
