Owned by Crawford Farms Racing, Alagna Farms Racing LLC, Jablonsky Held Stable and Barbera N Wienick Stable, Abuckabett Hanover won four of 12 starts as a freshman and banked just shy of $195,000.
Trot Insider caught up with trainer Tony Alagna for an update on the son of Betting Line. Where did Abuckabett Hanover winter and when did you start back with him?
The start to Warrawee Vital’s racing career might have been a bit slower than his accomplished siblings, but the son of Captaintreacherous started to blossom and roll in late summer of last year and he will now carry that momentum into the 2021 racing season.
Warrawee Vital was late to hit the track, having not made his first start until December of 2019. He produced a couple of victories in overnight and late-closing action before a bout of lameness sidelined him through most of spring 2020. Trainer Rob Fellows then pointed him off just one start to the North America Cup, where he took “a shot and a wish” but missed making the final. Yet, the regally-bred colt rebounded promptly, uncorking powerful miles in the Simcoe and Somebeachsomewheres the latter in which he broke a nearly decade-old stakes record and followed those efforts with a 1:47.1 mile in a Bluegrass division at Lexington.

Bayfield Beach races for connections very familiar to North America Cup success. His breeder, Schooner II Stable, famously campaigned the colt s sire, Somebeachsomewhere, to a victory in the race in 2008, while his trainer Brian Brown won his first Cup in 2017 with Fear The Dragon. This Brian Brown trainee, with one win from 13 starts, gathered cheques in the Pennsylvania Sires Stakes and came a half-length from winning the $720,000 Metro Pace.

Charlie May, who was voted Ohio’s best two-year-old pacing male in 2020, makes his seasonal debut Saturday (April 10) in a $15,000 elimination of the James K. Hackett Memorial for three-year-old pacing males at Miami Valley Raceway. Charlie May, trained by Steve Carter, will start from post 7 in a seven-horse field with driver Brett Miller.
Last year, Tiger’s homebred gelding won seven of nine starts and finished second in both defeats. Charlie May earned $328,627 to rank sixth among all two-year-old pacing males in North America, and his best win time of 1:50.2 established in a track-record Ohio Sire Stakes championship performance at Scioto Downs tied for fifth on the continent.
