The Medford High School football team had its first test against Lynn Classical, one of the newest entrants in the Greater Boston League [GBL], last Friday, April 30, at Hormel Stadium.
The Rams were a longtime Northeastern Conference [NEC] team that switched to the GBL this year, along with Lynn English, their cross-town counterparts.
Chelsea has returned to the league after being a part of it for decades. With these additions, the GBL is now made up of eight schools.
Not only was the decision made via a close vote, the reaction Schelender s phone and email has received from parents and students has been about evenly split, he said. Besides health concerns, questions also were raised about making a change of this magnitude with less than a month to go in the school year.
The Wisconsin Supreme Court effectively ended a statewide mask mandate April 2 by limiting the ability to extend previous emergency orders without legislative approval. Since then, a handful of the state s 464 school districts have ended or loosened their mask requirements.
While the COVID-19 protocols were meant to be lifted immediately, the schools would face logistical concerns in not only taking down plexiglass dividers in classrooms and other physical items but also finding places to store them on short notice. Schlender said discussions are taking place on this situation.

1. An award-winning documentary portraying lacrosse from a purely Native American perspective will be available for free streaming this weekend.
US Lacrosse is partnering with One Bowl Productions, the Iroquois Nationals, Thompson Brothers Lacrosse and 4 the Future Foundation to expand access to “Spirit Game: Pride of a Nation.” The celebrated feature-length documentary was produced in 2017 and called by Inside Lacrosse as “the most ambitious, broad-sweeping and beautifully shot lacrosse film to date.”
