A driver suspected of being under the influence was arrested after a fatal crash in North Portland on Thursday night, which damaged a power pole and forced the closure of a major roadway, police said.
An officer happened upon the crash near Northeast Sandy Boulevard and Northeast Killingsworth Street just before 11:45 p.m., police said.
The driver of a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe had struck a power pole and the officer called for paramedics, but the passenger in the vehicle died at the scene, police said. The driver, later identified as 29-year-old Portland resident Anthony Soto, was also injured but was expected to survive.
