North Precinct officers say Ja mere Malik Brown died at the scene of a shooting near Northeast Alberta Street and Mallory Avenue around 10:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 31. An autopsy determined that he died by homicide by gunshot wound, according to a news release. Another person at the scene also was shot, but police haven t made public any other information regarding the person s identity or the extent of their injuries. No arrests have been made in the case.

The spike in shootings and deaths that began last year has continued into 2021. According to police, two people were wounded three days into the new year, and a person who was wounded on New Year s Eve has died. The most recent investigation began at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 3, when officers were dispatched to the 3000 block of Southeast 136th Avenue after reports of gun shots. When they arrived, officers found evidence that more than 50 rounds had been fired off. Two apartments and seven vehicles had been struck by gunfire as well, police said.
