Whether you’re looking for date-night ideas, free things to do or just something fun to do with the kids, you can’t go wrong with our list of events happening around Metro Vancouver between April 22-28. Headlining this week’s picks is the return of 1 Hour Photo.
The Zolas
What: The City of Surrey is livestreaming the family-favourite Party for the Planet on April 22 from 5 to 7 pm on Facebook and YouTube Live. And this year’s event is packed with great performers, environmental education for all ages, and more.
Vancouver indie-rockers The Zolas will be headlining the event. The JUNO-nominated group will be sharing the virtual stage with musical and Indigenous performances by Andrea Menard, Stars of the North Drum Group, IAMTHELIVING and Teon Gibbs, Glass Forest, Wild Moccasin Dancers and Bobs & Lolo and more. There will also be interactive workshops, arts & crafts, and contests worth up to $700 happening every 30 minutes. Plus pop into the Virtual Photobooth for an Earth Day selfie.

April is National Poetry Month and this year’s theme is resilience. It’s a fitting choice in light of the recent recognition accorded to Joseph Dandurand.
He s an archeologist, member of the Kwantlen First Nation, and author of
The East Side of It All (Nightwood Editions).
This collection of poems shares some of his experiences as a Downtown Eastside drug user trying to reconnect with family and his Indigenous roots.

Vancouver Poetry House is presenting the 11th annual Verses Festival of Words from April 22 to May 1.
Canada’s largest alternative literary festival, Verses features spoken-word artists, poets, storytellers, singer-songwriters, and improvisers on various online stages.
Highlights of the festival include:
