Lt Governor-headed committee to monitor Covid-19 vaccination in Puducherry

Puducherry [India], February 25 (ANI): A 22-member COVID Intensive Vaccination Committee led by Lieutenant Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan has been constituted in Puducherry to monitor and upscale the inoculation activities in the Union Territory.

Two more MLAs of the Congress- DMK alliance in Puducherry resigned on Sunday, delivering yet another jolt to Chief Minister V Narayanasamy as the ruling side s strength further depleted to 11 against opposition s 14 in the 33-member assembly, a day before the trust vote. Beleaguered Narayanasamy, who held a meeting with the remaining MLAs of the Congress and DMK, said the government s strategy would be made known before Monday s floor test, ordered by Lt Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, to prove his majority. The fresh bout of resignations took the tally in the last few days to three and the cumulative since last month to six and further reduced the strength of the Congress-DMK combine in the assembly to 11.

Puducherry Lt Governor asks Congress govt to prove majority on Feb 22

Puducherry Lt Governor Tamilisai Soundararjan on Thursday ordered a floor test for the Congress government in the union territory on February 22, to ascertain whether it has majority in the wake of a spate of resignations by the ruling party MLAs that has reduced its strength to 14. The strength of both the ruling and opposition camps stand at 14 in the 33-member house, including three nominated legislators of the BJP. The assembly has five vacancies. Congress own strength is ten, including the Speaker, while its ally DMK has three members. An independent also supports the government.   Soundararajan s direction to Chief Minister V Narayansamy came after the opposition, led by Leader of the Opposition in the assembly and AINRC chief N Rangasamy, reiterated its stand that the government has to prove its majority on the floor of the House, a release from the Lt. Governor s Secretariat here said.
