The day after Netflix’s star-studded movie “Don’t Look Up” wrapped production, George Clooney was spotted filming “The Tender Bar” in both Lowell and Watertown on Friday. Filming for the movie will take place in the Boston area and in multiple towns on the North Shore, and will likely wrap up in mid-April, according to a source familiar with the production. Prior to the start of production, Clooney was spotted in Ipswich scouting locations.

Majority owner of Sentinel & Enterprise parent company to acquire Tribune Publishing

Alden Global Capital LLC, a New York hedge fund which backs the parent company of Fitchburg’s Sentinel & Enterprise newspaper, has agreed to acquire Tribune Publishing Co. for about $430 million. Tribune Publishing is the parent company of a variety of papers, including the Chicago Tribune, the Hartford Courant in Connecticut, New York Daily News and the Capital Gazette in Annapolis, Maryland. Alden’s subsidiary, Colorado-based MediaNews Group, which also does business as Digital First Media, also owns many papers around the country, including local publications like the Sentinel & Enterprise, The Lowell Sun and the Boston Herald. Alden is known for making dramatic cuts to the papers it owns.

A strong second half rebound helped the Massachusetts Pension Reserves Investment Trust (PRIT) end calendar year 2020 with a 12.6% return, beating its benchmark’s return of 10.8% and raising the fund to a record high of $86.9 billion in assets, according to Pension Reserves Investment Management (PRIM), which oversees the fund. The fund also surpassed its benchmark over the past three, five, and 10 years, with annualized returns of 8.8%, 10.4%, and 8.9%, respectively, compared with 8.0%, 9.5%, and 7.6%, respectively for its benchmark over the same time periods.
