In a 30-page order scheduled to be filed in Henderson County today, Judge Robert C. Ervin of Burke County spelled out 378 points from the inquiry and concluded that Newman s action warranted his removal under a state law governing a complaint filed with the Clerk of Superior Court to oust an elected prosecutor for midconduct. Based on the foregoing finding of fact and conclusions of law, it is hereby ordered, adjudged and decreed that Gregory A. Newman is hereby permanently removed from office as district attorney and his salary shall be terminated as of the date of the filing of this order, Ervin wrote.
Henderson County Detention Center inmates get COVID vaccines through partnership
From staff reports
In a team effort Monday, the Henderson County Sheriff s Office, Henderson County Health Department and The Free Clinics vaccinated 55 of 152 inmates who requested to be immunized against COVID-19 while incarcerated in the Henderson County Detention Facility.
Everyone incarcerated was offered the vaccine and nurses from the Health Department administered the first of two doses.
Follow-up vaccinations will be administered in 21 days for those remaining in custody. For inmates being released before the second dose is administered, the county-funded, embedded navigator from The Free Clinics will work to ensure locations, times and informational follow-up is in place.
The board s effort to clarify the regulation comes after a Zoning Board of Adjustment showed that the county s land-use ordinance was ambiguous in how it defined private shooting ranges and commercial shooting ranges. The proposed text amendments recommended that indoor and outdoor commercial ranges be a permitted use in all zones except for office-institutional, including the county s four residential categories.
Commissioner Rebecca McCall made a motion to require a special-use permit for ranges in three residential zones and to reduce the hours from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. instead of 8 p.m. just to make sure in a residential area a commercial range is following the rules they need to follow. Commissioners defeated the motion on a 3-2 vote, with commissioners Daniel Andreotta, David Hill and Michael Edney voting no and chairman Bill Lapsley joining McCall in voting no. By the same vote, commissioners defeated McCall s motion to cut the hours at night from 8 to 6 p.m.
