As previously announced, President Eric Barron
plans to retire once his contract expires in June 2022. Now, the board has formed a task force to spearhead efforts to find Penn State’s next president.
To get started, the Board of Trustees’ Presidential Recruitment and Selection Committee launched a new initiative, titled “Next Gen Penn State,” to guide its efforts and receive feedback and input from the community throughout the university’s search.
“The Next Gen Penn State initiative is a ‘listening phase’ of our process within which stakeholders from varying backgrounds and perspectives will be charged with actively soliciting input from all areas of our community to help inform the selection of Penn State’s next president,” Board of Trustees Chair Matt Schuyler said. “This is a critical step in the overall presidential search process, and it is an indispensable opportunity for community members to be involved. Shortly after Governor Tom Wolf announced the new outline for vaccine distribution in Pennsylvania, Penn State President Eric Barron addressed pre-submitted questions from faculty and staff about how the university will deal with COVID-19 moving forward. In a livestream, Barron urged employees to get vaccinated as soon as they’re eligible. Those who work with students can sign up starting on Monday.
Kelly Wolgast is the director of Penn State’s COVID-19 operations control center. She says, for now, Penn Staters will have to look outside the university for a vaccine.
“The state is however not making the vaccine available to us as a university to give to our employees or our students. However it is being distributed through healthcare systems, pharmacys, the Rite-Aids, the CVSs, and those types of organizations across the state,” said Wolgast.

Angela Church named senior director for HR administrative units

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. Angela Church has been named senior director for Human Resources administrative units reporting to the vice president for Human Resources. With nearly a decade of human resources leadership and management experience, Church most recently served as senior associate vice president and chief human resources officer at the University of Oklahoma. Church will begin her appointment on Jan. 18.
Church has extensive experience in planning and designing human resources programs, building high functioning and empowered teams, evaluating programs, policies, and processes, and executing complex contract negotiations.
