SpartanNash names Amy McClellan to head fresh merchandising

As vice president of fresh merchandising, McClellan (left) will oversee fresh product categories and develop strategy to drive their growth at SpartanNash’s more than 150 company-owned stores and 2,100 independent retail locations. Her responsibilities will include managing overall product assortment, ensuring high-quality products and introducing new solutions to meet changing customer needs. McClellan has held her current roles since food wholesaler and retailer SpartanNash closed its acquisition of Indiana grocer Martin’s in January of 2019. The company noted that she recently marked her 20-year anniversary with Martin’s. She started her career at the chain as a part-time cashier while in high school and advanced to roles of increasing responsibility, including communications specialist, market research supervisor, loyalty and marketing program manager, director of marketing, and vice president of sales and marketing.

FMI calls on CDC to hone COVID vaccine distribution

Grocery chains push ahead with vaccination programs despite inconsistent supply As grocery retailers ramp up COVID-19 vaccination programs, FMI-The Food Industry Association is doing its part to help the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) resolve issues in vaccine distribution and administration.  FMI said yesterday it participated in an online public meeting hosted by the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP). The grocery trade group voiced support for federal guidelines in vaccine allocation but said food industry employees deemed as “essential workers” by the government are falling short as one of the priority populations to be immunized.

The vaccine will be administered at no cost to patients and will be available at each of SpartanNash’s 88 company-owned pharmacies, including Family Fare, D&W Fresh Market, Martin’s Super Markets, VG’s Grocery, Family Fresh Market, Forest Hills Foods and Econofoods stores in Michigan, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
