Afghanistan- Marking One Year Milestone of US-Taliban Peace Deal

The first and the most crucial step were to break the ice between the Afghan government and Taliban through intra-afghan dialogue that became the turning point of the peace deal. However, the intra-Afghan dialogue still remains in stalemate after the completion of one year and everything is only in documentation with no visible improvement in ground reality. The second step was the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan that was a tough decision for the US and also a challenge for the Afghan National Army as to how to tackle the safety of a country from both internal and external threats. The Taliban have said that if the US does not withdraw their forces within the due date that will mean a violation of the deal. Afghans Mark 30th Anniversary Of Soviet Withdrawal Hundreds of Afghans, who said they are families of war victims, gathered at the Loya Jirga tent in Kabul on Friday to mark the 30th anniversary of Soviet troops withdrawal from Afghanistan. The speakers of the ceremony said the past years’ gains should be protected in any process which will help the country to move towards peace. “There are lots of people who have misused the sacrifices of martyrs. They should know that the heirs of the martyrs will stand on their own feet after this,” said Attaullah Safi, member of a newly-founded forum on war victims’ families.

13 Wounded In Massoud Day Shooting Spree The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said on Sunday at least 13 Kabul residents, including a woman and a police officer, werewounded during a day of careless shooting by Ahmad Shah Massoud supporters on Saturday.  Saturday was the 16th anniversary of Massoud’s assassination and the start of the Martyrs Week – a day marked officially inthe Loya Jirga tent in Kabul. However, dozens of Massoud supporters drove through the streets of Kabul for hours, in convoys, shooting indiscriminately into the air – their cars adorned with pictures of Massoud.   Angry Kabul residents said such behavior was unacceptable especially as many of these shooting incidents took place close to security check points.
