April 4, 2021- Mike Lee Mike kicks off our Jazzy Afternoons Jazz Appreciation Month with a ferocious roaring start with some very hardcore seasoned jazz professionals.
Mike Lee locally has run some very successful and widely popular Jazz jams. - from Cecils to the Montclair Social Club and a few popular places in between. As a performing musician his recent associations include The Jimmy Heath Orchestra, The Dizzy Gillespie Orchestra, Wallace Roney s Universe Orchestra, The Oliver Lake Big Band, The Loston Harris Trio, The Nat Adderley Jr. Quartet, etc, He performs regularly at venues such as The Bluenote, Dizzy s Club Coca-Cola, Smalls, The Jazz Gallery, Fat Cat, and Bemelmans Bar at NYC Carlyle Hotel.
An autopsy of the woman who died in her cell at the Greenwood County jail shed no additional light on her manner of death, as county officials await the outcome of a state investigation.
Tara Tharpe Godfrey, 45, of Woodlawn Road died Sunday while in custody at the jail. She was arrested March 31 and was found dead in her bunk at the jail at about 6 a.m. Sunday.
Greenwood County Detention Center Administrator Maj. Lonnie Smith said staff members at the jail check on inmates throughout the night. Our primary job during jail checks at night, official minimum standards say we have to give them at least six hours uninterrupted sleep, Smith said.

The excellent second album from this Baltimore-bred, LA-based artist (aka Josiah Wise) brings a more optimistic perspective to his expansive R&B/gospel-influenced sound, forsaking the dark, sometimes stormy textures and tortured lyrics of his debut album Soil in favor of an airy, atmospheric sound combining celestial synths, piano, acoustic guitar, often-spacious beats and sun-kissed melodies with his silky lead vocals, layered vocal harmonies and personal lyrics of love, sex, friendship and connection. A Greenwood woman was found dead in her bed Sunday morning at the Greenwood County jail a few days after her arrest, according to officials.
Tara Tharpe Godfrey, 45, of Woodlawn Road died while in custody at the jail, according to Greenwood County Coroner Sonny Cox. Her manner and cause of death are undetermined pending further investigation and an autopsy scheduled for Tuesday.
Maj. Lonnie Smith, jail administrator, said Godfrey was found dead in her cell Sunday morning by detention officers. Cox listed her time of death as about 6:20 a.m. Sunday.
âWe secured the cell area and notified SLED and the coronerâs office immediately,â Smith said.
