Blaine Green, Fr.
Thoughts on receiver: Even with Tylan Wallace and Dillon Stoner leaving, Kasey Dunn has an embarrassment of riches of highly regarded prospects. I’ve been captaining the Langston Anderson ship for a while now, but I’ve heard he has been banged up a little bit this year.
It will also be interesting to see how the Green twins play into this and whether they can make an impact after enrolling early.
The slot behind Brennan Presley is also interesting. Zach Middleton is listed as a receiver on the roster, but he was posing for pictures with the running backs after the Cheez-It Bowl. Maybe John Paul Richardson gets a look early?
Non-Playoff bowl games have taken a hit in terms of star power in recent years, and the COVID-riddled 2020 season hasn’t help that cause.
There are five (kind of six) major opt-outs in Oklahoma State’s Cheez-It Bowl matchup with Miami. Four of those are on OSU’s side, and the other two opt-outs are Hurricanes.
Miami
Jaelan Phillips, DE, 6-5, 266: Jaelan Phillips announced his decision to opt-out and prepare for the NFL Draft on Dec. 20. It’s a big loss for the Hurricanes, as Phillips is Miami’s leader in sacks (eight) and tackles for loss (15.5) this season. His season stat line also includes 45 total tackles, an interception, three pass breakups and five quarterback hurries. He is expected to be a first round NFL Draft pick.
Jelani Woods is headed back east.
Woods, a Georgia native, announced his commitment to Virginia on Thursday evening, just three days after the former Oklahoma State Cowboy back entered the transfer portal.
Blessed to announce that I will be continuing my career at The University of Virginia. I will like to thank @UVACoachBronco@CoachAnae@Coach2J for the amazing opportunity and I’m ready to get to work. #GoHoos#Virginia#Wahoopic.twitter.com/ojCyfBNOId LANi (@jelani thegreat) December 25, 2020
Woods was a fan-favorite in Stillwater, making the position change from quarterback to tight end. He developed into a solid blocker for the Cowboys, but OSU fans often showed frustration with how little Woods was used in the passing game.
