Vendor samples, live entertainment and kids’ programming are back at some locales for the summer 2021 farmers market season. So, too, are face masks, hand-washing stations and social distancing.
Area market managers plan to reintroduce the more social aspects of these traditionally community-oriented venues a year after the coronavirus pandemic pared farmers markets down to commercial transactions in the 2020 season.
But everyone acknowledges it is a balancing act as farmers markets throughout central Illinois are welcoming customers back.
“We’re approaching this farmers market season planning on a social atmosphere from the past,” said Nicole Moore, market manager for the Illinois Products Farmers’ Market held at the Illinois State Fairgrounds, “realizing if the (state’s COVID-19 infection) numbers go up, we will have to respond.

Lincoln Speedway season starts with national events

Lincoln, IL- Lincoln Speedway has announced the 2021 tentative season schedule, filled with plenty of big events. The track, located at the Logan County Fairgrounds will host numerous special events throughout the year including a season opening make-up event from the 2020 DIRTcar Fall Nationals and the season ending 2021 DIRTcar Fall Nationals.
The action will begin with two test and tune events for competitors on Sunday, March 28 and Thursday, April 8. Not only will those practices be used to fine tune cars for the regular season but also the big season opener on Friday, April 9, that will feature the make-up event for the DIRTcar Fall Nationals from the 2020 season. That event will feature DIRTcar Super Late Models, Modifieds, Pro Modifieds, and Hornets.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment opened several free community COVID-19 testing sites throughout the state last week in an effort to increase access.
Testing is now available Monday through Friday at Abraham Lincoln High School in Denver from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., Fruita Monument High School in Fruita from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Mission Medical Center in Colorado Springs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Testing is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays at Logan County Fairgrounds in Sterling and on Sundays at Northeast Colorado Health Department.
All sites are free of charge and currently open for testing. Walk-ins are welcome but registration is encouraged. Registration for each site is available online at covidcheckcolorado.org.
