Large investigation underway in hopes of finding those responsible for arson that killed Air Guard firefighter

The lead investigator into the arson fire that killed a member of the West Virginia Air National Guard says the investigation is progressing in hopes of finding those responsible for setting the blaze. Senior Airman Logan Young (WVANG) State Deputy Fire Marshal Jason Baltic said Tuesday the investigative team, which includes state police, sheriff’s deputies and the federal ATF, has already conducted some interviews with more scheduled. They’ve also retrieved video surveillance. “It’s a very large investigation at this point,” Baltic said during a Tuesday appearance on MetroNews “Talkline.” Jason D. (AP) Authorities have identified a West Virginia Air National Guard member who died while helping firefighters respond to the scene of a blaze that had been intentionally set. Senior Airman Logan Young of the 167th Airlift Wing died Sunday while responding to the fire in Kearneysville, the West Virginia National Guard said in a statement Monday. “Logan stepped up to defend our country and protect our freedoms, and served as a first responder here at home,” Gov. Jim Justice said in a statement. “We owe everything we have to brave men and women like him.”

/ West Virginia National Guard senior airman Logan Young died in a structure fire while responding to a mutual aid call in Jefferson County. The West Virginia State Fire Marshall is investigating two suspicious fires it says are connected in Jefferson County, one of which took the life of West Virginia National Guard senior airman Logan Young. The West Virginia State Police is helping with the investigation. Young, 30, was fatally injured in the early morning hours of Dec. 27 during a mutual aid response call to the second fire. He joined the West Virginia Air National Guard in 2018 and served as a firefighter in the 167th Civil Engineer Squadron.
