Special feature on the late great Packie McGarty in this week s Leitrim Observer Reporter: );   ); Following the death of the legendary Leitrim footballer Packie McGarty (RIP) last week we have been inundated with photographs, stories and recollections from friends, team mates and supporters. Packie was laid to rest last Thursday following his Funeral Mass in Terenure. At that Mass his son Eamonn spoke lovingly about his father and gave an insight into the man himself - a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, as well as a sporting icon. We will be publishing a number of photographs from Packie s career including the Leitrim team from 1952 that contested the All Ireland Final that year.

With the connection between the exiles and their native land stronger than ever, particularly with the County Senior team being sponsored by Seamus Clarke of JP Clarke’s Saloon Bar in the Big Apple, the 50 Miles in January Challenge has really caught on big.

Croke Park may delay start of Allianz leagues by at least a month Reporter:   ); Croke Park is expected to give an update of the proposed start-up of the Alliance Football and Hurling Leagues at the end of next week. Due to Covid-19 it is expected that the proposed start-up of the leagues, February 29 will be pushed forward, by at least one month, it will all depend on the covid numbers and what government restrictions are in place. It is anticipated that providing the Leagues get the go-ahead that the championships will follow with the club season commencing in late August or early September.
