Nurses wanted as Lakeland Regional hosts 'Walk-in Wednesday' weekly job fair

and last updated 2021-07-26 18:55:27-04 LAKELAND, Fla. — Lakeland Regional Health is hosting a weekly job fair called Walk-in Wednesday, and there are various positions the hospital is aggressively recruiting for. “Includes our registered nurses, our respiratory therapist. We have a position within the medical center called patient care assistant, patient care associate,” said Scott Dimmick, Lakeland Regional Health Chief Human Resources Officer. This comes at a time when hospitals across the country are facing a nursing shortage. “We have nurses aging out and retiring from the workforce and then COVID kind of exacerbated some of that. So, we are in a very good position staffing-wise, but obviously, everyone’s kind of feeling the strain,” said April Novotny, Chief Nurse Executive.

Majority of COVID patients are unvaccinated: Sarasota Memorial Hospital officials

and last updated 2021-07-19 23:15:13-04 SARASOTA, Fla. — Sarasota Memorial Hospital (SMH) officials said nearly all COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths have been among people who are unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated. About a month ago, the number of COVID-19 patients at SMH was in the single digits and no one was in the hospital s ICU. As of Monday morning, the hospital had 36 patients with the virus. Of those patients, seven are in the ICU. Once there is more mobility in a population, interact more, they go out especially indoors, they get into crowded environments and on top of that without masks, that’s a recipe that the virus loves, said Dr. Manuel Gordillo, Sarasota Memorial Infectious Disease specialist.

'Fairly dramatic' COVID-19 spike sending Polk's unvaccinated to hospitals

Fairly dramatic COVID-19 spike sending Polk s unvaccinated to hospitals Ken Suarez reports LAKELAND, Fla. - If you think that COVID-19 is almost over, think again. There has been a spike in cases in Polk County that is following a national trend. We have seen a steady rise over the last few weeks, explained Dr. Hal Escowitz of Lakeland Regional Medical Center. It has been fairly dramatic and unfortunate. As a matter of fact, over the three weeks in Polk, the number of cases has doubled. It is surprising to us, said Escowitz. I know a few weeks ago everyone felt the dust was clearing a little bit.
