We have vaccinated more people in the UK so far than in the rest of Europe put together, and I would like to pay tribute to the army of NHS staff and trained volunteers that are making this great national effort possible. Locally, we have two vaccination centres operating in the Leigh constituency, with the work of the main centre at Leigh Sports Village now being supplemented by the vaccinations at Golborne Parkside Sports and Community Club, where a new clinic was set up last weekend.

Man Utd complete signing of Chelsea defender Maria Thorisdottir Man Utd have signed Maria Thorisdottir from WSL rivals Chelsea | Gualter Fatia/Getty Images Manchester United have completed the signing of Norwegian international Maria Thorisdottir from Women’s Super League rivals Chelsea. She will add depth to the squad at the back and directly replaces Abbie McManus, who joined Tottenham on loan earlier this week. Thorisdottir is an experienced WSL defender, having joined Chelsea in 2017 and won titles in both 2017/18 and 2019/20. She has also won the FA Cup and Continental Cup during her time in England. The 27-year-old has agreed a contract at Leigh Sports Village until the end of the 2022/23 season and the lure of playing for United was a factor in her decision to join the club. Not for the first time, a new signing has also heaped praise on manager Casey Stoney.

Leigh honour trusted friend and clubman Andrew Parkinson

Andrew Parkinson LEIGH Centurions have honoured the late Andrew Parkinson has been honoured with Posthumous Life Membership of the Club. Andrew, who passed away of Covid-19 on 9 January at the age of 35, was a hugely respected employee who had spent most of his working life with Leigh Centurions and was a trusted friend to so many people within the club and the town’s community. The honour, proposed by Club owner Derek Beaumont and agreed unanimously by the non-executive board, was immediately accepted by Andrew’s family. Andrew will be cremated with the walnut plaque embossed with the Club’s badge and these simple words:
