Garfield County commissioners formally oppose Biden s 30×30 climate crisis plan

The Board of County Commissioners unanimously adopted a resolution opposing the land preservation goal. In it, they said Garfield County relies heavily on its existing public lands for natural resource development, oil and gas leasing, grazing and recreation. To cut back on those uses, and to potentially close off even more land from resource development, could have dire impacts on the local economy, they said. “The 30×30 program, if implemented, is likely to cause significant harm to the economy of Garfield County, and injure the county’s businesses and its citizens by depriving them of access to public lands … and preventing the productive use of these lands’ resources,” the resolution reads.

Cumbria Chamber of Commerce is looking to the future with a restructure of the senior management team. Suzanne Caldwell has been appointed managing director, following the retirement of chief executive Rob Johnston, while Lesley Robinson takes on the new role of business support manager. Suzanne, who was previously deputy chief executive, becomes the first woman to lead the influential business organisation. She said: “I was delighted to be offered the role of managing director, not least because it gives me the opportunity to do even more to support Cumbria’s businesses as we move forward, something I’ve been committed to for most of my working life.”

Suzanne Caldwell has been appointed managing director following the retirement of chief executive Rob Johnston and Lesley Robinson takes on the new role of business support manager. Suzanne, who was previously deputy chief executive, becomes the first woman to lead the influential business organisation. In her 14 years with the chamber her role has included developing and running its business support activities, as part of this establishing Cumbria Business Growth Hub, to provide a single point of contact for business support in the county.

Cumbria Business Growth Hub will host the web-based workshops – Is my business idea a good one, Enterprising women in Cumbria and Building blocks of an entrepreneur. They begin on February 11. Cumbria Business Growth Hub offers support for businesses. Since the start of April 2019, its Business Start-Up Support programme has supported 686 individuals, 368 young businesses, and has helped over 100 new businesses start up. The Growth Hub anticipates there will be an even higher increase in business start-up queries during this current lockdown.
