What’s what and who’s who in the arts this week? Here’s HELEN MUSA‘s weekly “Arts in the City” column. FORMER director of the Centenary of Canberra and the National Festival of Australian Theatre, Robyn Archer, has just been awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the University of South Australia. Performing regularly, Archer is now a global mentor for the European Festivals’ Association Festival Academy and an ambassador for the Adelaide Crows. Ian Darling, left, and Greg Fleet… “The Twins”, Courtyard Studio, May 3-6. “THE Twins”, a new Australian play, stars comedians Greg Fleet and Ian Darling playing two old school friends, Greg and Ian, reuniting 40 years after playing the twins in Shakespeare’s “The Comedy of Errors”, to rework it as a two-hander. Artsday / Local, all-transgender musical hits the stage

Written by and starring a local gender-diverse cast who traverse the wacky experiences of being trans and gender diverse, it was created by Tuggeranong Arts Centre in collaboration with performance artist and community builder Kat Reed (recently named 2021 Young Canberra Citizen of the Year) and artist and vocal coach Dianna Nixon from Wild Voices Music Theatre. Opera debut aims to knock your socks off

Music / “La Clemenza di Tito”, by Mozart, National Opera. At Llewellyn Hall until April 17. Reviewed by ROB KENNEDY. UNDER its new name of the National Opera, performing one of Mozart’s last operas, “La Clemenza di Tito”, the company stepped out for 2021 in its first performance of this dramatic and compelling work. Directed by Peter Coleman-Wright, with conductor, Dane Lam, chorus master, Tobias Cole, costumes, Fiona Victoria Hopkins and lighting, Mark Dyson with the Canberra Symphony Orchestra. The singers were Bradley Daley as Tito, Catherine Carby as Sesto, Helena Dix as Vitellia, Eleanor Greenwood as Annio, Mikayla Tate as Servilia and Andrew Collis as Publio.

THE National Opera bursts into being this weekend with Mozart’s “La Clemenza di Tito”, billed as a story of friendship and forgiveness triumphing over jealousy and violence. Former ANU School of Music graduates, mezzo-sopranos Eleanor Greenwood and Catherine Carby, have flown back to Australia to join the cast of top singers assembled by director Peter Coleman-Wright.
